Phase 1 Empty Phase 1

Post by Poobah Sun Oct 28, 2007 10:34 pm

My squadron just had a Basic Training Weekend, known locally as a Phase 1. We had 9 cadets as basics. I think the weekend was effective - the cadets learned basic drill, uniform standards, customs and courtesies. We also went over the Curry through Feik achievements, and studied the appropriate chapters and modules. A testing period was offered at the end of the activity.
One big lesson I learned was how much of the load the staff can take off your shoulders. I was the activity CC, and I had an awesome staff that really stepped in there and did their jobs. It helped me delegate authority easier when I knew that I had staff that I could trust to hold the cadets to standard.

Do you use the program from NHQ? I've heard of that program alot. Did you think it helped.

My squadron conducts BCT all month long. It is basically incorperated into our weekly meetings, eliminating the need to extra weekend activities but also lets cadets do the "fun" stuff on the weekends. I was thinking of trying a weekend gig, but just dont have time.

No, we didn't use the NHQ materials. We (the cadet staff) drew up our own curriculum and schedule.

We like to do the weekend activities when we have time, because it frees up the weekly meetings for the "normal programming". Smile
